Doesn't XFree86-4 include the server?  Shouldn't this have gotten installed?

Oh well.  It works now.

I guess I have to learn about the FreeBSD ports for KDE to see if there is
anything I can learn from their patches.

I kind of want to see how far the latest KDE beta will compile natively
without extras before I give up.

I know there are hacks that had to be done for things like getpwnam_r's
non-existance on FBSD 4.x.  I think 5.2 with the new NSS handles this but
we had to use a non-thread safe version to make it work before we had this
functionality.
