Nothing on the serial port at all (double checked processes, 
/etc/ttys, fstat...)  :-(

Sorry to be skimpy on details, that's all I have.  It's not a 
machine that is setup to debug.  I do, however, have another local 
machine I can mess around with.  Maybe I can get that one to do the 
same thing...
