One other thing I've forgotten to mention: I have to put the -V in
a /boot.config to boot the box. If I don't all I get are garbage characters
at the login prompt. 

Also this mobo chipset has the earliest rendition of APM, which I have
disabled in BIOS and do not use (no loading apm modules, etc).
