I have rev 0x74 of the same chip, and I had a very similar problem when I first
got the mb. The fix turned out to be a one-liner.

Unfortunately, no one seems to be updating the FreeBSD-4 driver (23 months
since the last change). But it would be interesting to know if the latest
FreeBSD-current install/boot floppy supports the chip correctly.

In theory ;o) you could step thru the FBSD-5 boot floppies from various
dates to find out which driver revision made your chip start working,
and then work backwards to fix the analogous code in the FBSD-4 driver.

Simple!

Any luck with polling mode?
