Hi Simon.  I've mentioned firefox before in the context of libthread_xu, and
you suggested that firefox should be recompiled, which I did.  The recompile
didn't change anything on this end -- firefox still closes when I click on
File->Open File and prints this message:

GThread-ERROR **: file gthread-posix.c: line 348 (): error 'Operation not
supported' during 'pthread_attr_setschedparam (&attr, &sched)'
aborting...

This problem is also fixed by going back to libc_r.

On the other hand, I can connect to SSL websites with no problem whatever.

Java is a total loss with either threadlib, but I think my jdk is overdue
for a rebuild.  I'll see if it will still compile overnight tonight.
