Funny, I was just discussing something similar with a few folks. While
everyone had their favorites, the entire bunch of us eventually agreed
that using /opt would at least (hopefully) eliminate hier(7) abuse. A
number of FreeBSD ports mess around outside of /usr/local with no real
justification. Using /opt seems to make this a lot easier to find.
