Strange NFS performance

From: Richard Nyberg <rnyberg@xxxxxxxx>

I have two NFS client mahcines. One running FreeBSD 4.8 and one running
dragonfly. The NFS server runs the same version of dragonfly as the client
(from 14 Apr.).

---
DragonFly server (500Mhz PIII, 384MB RAM, if_fxp0)

Reading and writing 100MB

FreeBSD 4.8 client (750Mhz AMD, 256MB RAM, if_vr0)
Reading ~9.5s
Writing ~13.5s

DragonFly client (1700XP AMD, 512MB RAM, if_vr0)
Reading ~13s
Writing >1min

It's actually much faster to scp the file to server :O !!!

---
I've not done any tuning of NFS at all. The machines are all on the same
100Mb/s LAN.

Any ideas on how to see what's wrong?

Also any tips on tuning NFS is very welcome ;)
