Well then, my reminiscences of successfully saving the dump of a low
hw.physmem'd session come from FreeBSD. Looking after it, they rewrote
the dumping code in the spring of 2002; see the relevant commits listed
at

  http://hg.fr.freebsd.org/src-head/?cmd=changelog;rev=71458

(from rev. 71452 to rev. 71458).

Thanks, that will do the job.
