[Fwd: Project Support Open Source: $50 donation to support you project]

I'm passing this along to the list. I received this email a little while
ago, mentioning Project SOS, a project designed to give money to open
source projects. It sounds good, but!

The "donation" happens after you place an "acknowledgement" on an open
source project's web page. I'm putting those words in scare quotes
because I think it's a "payment" for an "advertisement". The supplied
link has nothing to do with DragonFly, to say the least.

I don't think this is a good idea, obviously, and replied to that effect.
However, I wanted to put this on a DragonFly list, in part to show this
strange thing, and in part because I'm not comfortable making
administrative decisions on behalf of the Project without being open as
possible about it.

Hi Justin C. Sherrill,

It has been a while since any one has asked me to make donations for them,
but I now have 2 or 3 companies that just asked me.

My Project SOS kind of got put on the shelf for a bit but I am going to have
one of my employees spend some time on it and see if I can't get some
companies to donation to it.

Are you still taking donations for your project? If so can you place the
following acknowledgement on your sites' donation page.

<a href="http://www.2insure4less.com /" title="We support FOSS software
projects.">Online Insurance Quotes</a>

or if you have room.

<a href="http://www.2insure4less.com /" title="We support FOSS software
projects.">Online Insurance Quotes</a> uses and supports FOSS software.

I have a list of 65 that I have donated to myself but if you know of other
companies that have an active project that could use a donation please let
me know.

One of the company's has asked me to make a donation of $10,000 for them so
I need about 135 more active FOSS projects.

Thanks!
