I'm also interested in such a tool (but I don't really have the time to
write it ATM).  I feel that, done well, it could replace 'ee' (which is,
for the record, not WARNS=6 clean, not BSD licensed, and currently
broken [or at least, hobbled] because of ncurses 5.4, AFAICT.)
