If that was it I'll take a quick look at the UPDATING instructions to see if there is something wrong with them, or something I can make
more explicit.

:===> share/doc/papers/memfs
:indxbib -c :/usr/src/share/doc/papers/memfs/../../../../contrib/groff/src/utils/indxbib/eign : -o ref.bib /usr/src/share/doc/papers/memfs/ref.bib
:vgrind -f < /usr/src/share/doc/papers/memfs/A.t > A.gt
:refer -n -e -l -s -p /usr/src/share/doc/papers/memfs/ref.bib :/usr/src/share/doc/papers/memfs/0.t /usr/src/share/doc/papers/memfs/1.t :A.gt > paper.t
:refer:/usr/src/share/doc/papers/memfs//1.t:46:fatal error: cannot create :temporary file: No such file or directory

I would rule out UPDATING because a few days ago I installed on a machine that I knew I would have to put windows on for my wife and all went fine. I must have messed things up since or while installing and configuring. Went to edit a file and got this message:

Error: /var/tmp/vi.recover: No such file or directory.
Modifications not recoverable i fthe session fails.

I think when installing I didn't catch the fact that my batteries were going in my wireless keyboard soon enough and may not have got a command fully typed. I didn't think anything about that when I changed the batteries. Is there an easy way to correct this or should I just reinstall?
