I have no idea, but at least I can tell you, that I can autostart kdm on boot 
time on my two DFly installations (a notebook and a desktop). I do it by 
the /etc/ttys file:

 [..]
ttyv7   "/usr/libexec/getty Pc"         cons25  on  secure
ttyv8   "/usr/pkg/bin/kdm"              xterm   on secure
# Serial terminals
[..]
